POCOCO
Brand and Logo Design, Portland, OR
POCOCO—the Portland Coalition of Art Collectives—is a group I helped found in Portland, OR. We chose the name for its playfulness and memorability, and for the subtle nod to Rococo: a period known for its ornate aesthetic and indulgence in the trends of its time.
For the logo, I aimed for something clean and distinctive—refined but not stuffy—with just enough personality to reflect the rhythm, both visual and phonic, of the letters and the collective’s creative energy.
The poster design leaned into curiosity as a strategy. I wanted something that would catch people’s attention and make them wonder what POCOCO was all about. Thinking about Rococo as an unapologetic celebration of its cultural moment, I asked myself: “What does indulgent Portland design look like right now?” The answer—at least this time—was a retro Mt. Hood trucker patch, reworked to center the POCOCO name. I’m looking forward to exploring what other playful versions of Portland maximalism might emerge from this project.
