Design boards for a :05 logo reveal for Converse. Made while completing the School of Motion Design Bootcamp certificate.

In my initial brand research for this project, I jotted down words like: originality, retro, rebellious, cool, individual, fun, energetic, creative, maverick, dreamer, break the rules—skate, music, basketball. With that in mind, I leaned into skate and punk culture as a visual language to express those values.

While gathering images, I was especially drawn to recurring themes of movement—particularly people mid-jump, whether in the middle of a skate trick or launching off stage at a hardcore show. That sense of defiance and momentum felt like the heartbeat of the brand. I selected one skate and one punk photo that felt both visually striking and compositionally strong—framing them to interact with the 3D logo as it rotated and scaled into view.

A consistent thread across these frames is the use of texture and grayscale. My original intent was to “grit up” the pristine 3D logo renders, grounding them in the world of the boards. The halftones and weathering evoke the DIY aesthetic of punk flyers, and the rough edge of skate culture. Even though Converse uses bold color in its branding, the texture here does the emotional heavy lifting. In this case, color would have been a distraction—so I kept it grayscale to let the attitude come through unfiltered.

In the final logo resolve, the bold horizontal of the wall against the sky created a strong compositional anchor. The skater, slightly bewildered but resolute, captures the essence of the brand: bold, imperfect, and unapologetically human.


The ask:
Converse would like a :05 logo reveal animation to use on the end of videos they publish online in places like Social Media, YouTube, and possibly at the end of pre-roll ads. We’re looking for something high-end but authentic. Speak to the Converse brand.
  • 3-4 Style Frames / Boards showing us the progression of the Logo Reveal
  • The logo should resolve with our Tagline, as well as social media icons.
  • Our tagline is: Shoes are Boring. Wear Sneakers.
  • Our core demographic is 15-35, Male and Female.
